Japandroids: Post-Nothing
Japandroids are another great Canadian two-piece (Death From Above 1979-R.I.P.) from Vancouver that contains Brian King (guitar) and David Prowse (drums) and they share singing duties. Simply put, this is straight forward, fuzzed-out, noisy garage rock… the kind you and your best friend would make; if you and your best friend were from Canada and had a set of drums and a guitar.
I guess it could also be described as kind of “indie-hipster” if there is such a thing. Japandroids Post-Nothing is a good album for putting you in a good mood, cracking open a cold PBR… or heading down to your local dive bar (on your fixie of course) to creep on hipster girls. They also have some vaguely sounding Misfits,”Woooah-Oooohh-Woooah-Ooohh” going on in some of the songs if that helps my horrible description anymore, or less. There is nothing really ground-breaking here—musically or lyrically… but, it sure sounds good.
Every time I put this record on I start moving about—really great energy going on here. They’ve also got a nice “bromance” shot on the cover and straightforward album art with black and white photos and good use of the Futura font. No need to over analyze it though… just listen and enjoy.
They’re on tour now in Europe and coming to the US soon. Check out their website for details.
