Jesu: Infinity
This actually came out before the Opiate Sun EP, but I finally got around to writing a review for it, so here it is.
This isn’t your typical one track/single release… come to think of it—it’s one of the longest songs I have in my music collection and it’s aptly titled Infinity for good reason. Infinity is a borderline masterpiece though.
Justin k Broadrick revisits his roots of heavy guitar but manages to retain the ethereal soundscape he’s know for.
Surprisingly, for being 50 minutes long, Infinity is quite engaging. Although if you have a case of A.D.D./A.D.H.D., a really short attention span or trouble dedicating your undivided attention to something—this probably isn’t for you.
Although this album could’ve been split up into tracks (I won’t go into details) I can appreciate the fact that this is a 50 minute song. Justin K Broadrick definitely has the craft of making music sound heavy and dense, yet harmonious and melodic.
Infinity almost seems like a history lesson or a retrospective of some sorts; there are some hints of the previous bands Justin K Broadrick has been involved with (Godflesh, Head Of David, etc.). I couldn’t wait, so I ended up getting the CD before the LP was pressed. The CD comes in a 6 panel sleeve and the LP is pressed on super heavyweight 180grm vinyl and is, like all the Jesu LP releases, limited edition.
Infinity is available in LP, CD and MP3/FLAC downloadable versions from Justin K Broadrick’s own label, Avalanche Recordings.
